The Class of 2016

After the successful London 2012 games, the four-year countdown is now on before Rugby Sevens takes centre stage at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro. Will Bristols Matt Williams be the man in 2016?

Matt Williams joined Bristol from Doncaster Knights at the beginning of the 2011/12 season. The 22-year old winger was one of the leading try scorers during the 2010/11 Championship season, with 14 tries in 25 appearances. Renowned for his blistering pace and ball-carrying skills, Williams spent three years at Castle Park since joining the club from Waterloo at the beginning of the 2008/9 season.

In June 2012, Matt Williams joined up with the England Sevens squad when they defended their Moscow Sevens crown in this summer’s FIRA AER European Grand Prix Series. Though England lost Matt (hamstring) on day one, they swept past the Netherlands (33-14), Wales (35-12), Georgia (47-7) and Russia (19-14).
